Making Sense of Addiction

This is not a lack of willpower

Addiction often begins as a way of coping — a response to something that felt overwhelming, unbearable, or unspoken.

In therapy, we slow things down and make sense of what this relationship has been offering, without judgement or pressure to change before you are ready.

A space where something can shift

Another way is possible

In my work with addiction, I focus on understanding rather than willpower or labels. Together, we explore the emotional, relational, and existential dimensions of what you’re experiencing, so change can emerge in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.

A Safe Space to Understand

This isn’t about fixing you — it’s about connecting with your wholeness

Addiction can take many forms. It isn’t limited to substances such as alcohol or drugs, but can also involve behaviours that gradually become relied upon in order to cope or regulate something difficult. This may include substances such as alcohol, prescription or non-prescription drugs, nicotine, caffeine, sugar, or certain foods. It can also involve behaviours such as gambling, sex or pornography, work, shopping, internet or social media use, gaming, exercise, eating, hoarding, or other repetitive behaviours that begin to narrow one’s life or sense of choice.

Rather than focusing on labels or categories, I’m interested in how this has come to be part of your life, and the impact it has on your sense of choice, connection, and well-being. Many of us experience ambivalence around addiction. Parts of us may want to continue, while other parts feel conflicted, tired, or questioning. In therapy, there is space for all of these parts of ourselves to be heard. My work with addiction is grounded in understanding rather than correction. Together, we explore what this has been responding to, protecting you from, or helping you manage. From this place of curiosity and care, we begin to uncover the layers beneath addiction, allowing awareness and agency to grow, along with greater choice, empowerment, and freedom.

You Set the Pace

If something in this resonates, we can explore it together — at your pace, and in your own way.

Real Connection

Our work is rooted in genuine connection, where you are met as a person rather than a problem to be solved.
